Sandy River

The Sandy River

The Sandy River, just minutes from Portland, is a must-visit for any steelhead angler in Oregon. Known for its strong runs of winter and summer steelhead, this river offers a challenging yet rewarding experience. Whether you're wading through its cool, clear waters or casting from the banks, the thrill of hooking into a powerful steelhead is unmatched. The Sandy’s close proximity to the city makes it an ideal quick escape, where you can be surrounded by nature and locked in battle with one of the Northwest’s most sought-after fish.

The BOAT

Zach Carothers Fly Fishing Raft

14’ Aire Raft

On this trip, I offer both float and walk and wade trips. But if you want to float, you will find yourself in the most luxurious raft on the river. Complete with a sturdy seat that doubles as a cooler, no other raft on the Clack can rival this bad boy. Leg locks on the front and back allow for two to fish at once. You can find me in the middle rowing until I tell you its your turn.

Sandy River

Steelhead

Steelhead fishing on the Sandy River offers a challenge that’s as rewarding as it is demanding. While steelhead numbers have fluctuated in recent years, the river still sees strong runs, particularly in the winter months. These fish are known for their power and fight, making every hookup a hard-earned reward. The combination of unpredictable numbers and tough currents means success on the Sandy takes persistence, but landing one of these steelhead is a thrill you won’t forget. If you're up for the challenge, the Sandy River has plenty to offer.

Sandy River

Ribeye

Steelhead are called the fish of 10,000 casts… But I can guarantee you a lunker on this trip. For all that hard work you’ll be doing, you will be rewarded! We will stop along the river bank and I will transition from guide to gourmet chef. We will stoke up a quick fire, and heat the cast iron. A little salt, a little pepper, and you will be eating a Sandy River Five Star Meal™. It’s the least I can do.
